Deleting your data
Four different things get called “delete”, and they do different things. This page says which is which, what each one removes, and what is left afterwards — including the one record we deliberately do not remove, and why removing it would harm the person it belongs to.

1. What deletion means here
Deletion means the record is removed from the live database and from our backups within 30 days. Backups are retained on a rolling 30-day cycle, so a deleted record can persist in an encrypted backup for that period and is not restored if a backup is used.
Download a copy first. Deletion is not reversible. In the console, Settings → Your data gives you your contacts, chats, broadcasts and usage as spreadsheet files at any time. The chats file holds the words of every message; photos and documents sent in chats are not in it.
2. Deleting a single contact
- Open Contacts in the console.
- Find the person, using search or a filter.
- Open their record and choose Delete contact.
The contact is erased: their name and details, your notes and fields, the others you listed on their number, every chat with them — photos and files included — and the record of which broadcasts reached them. They are removed from your lists and from any broadcast that has not gone out yet. It cannot be undone. Selecting several contacts and deleting them does the same to each.
One thing deletion deliberately keeps. If that person had opted out, we retain the fact of the opt-out against their number — or numbers, since a stop covers all of them — and nothing else. Removing it would mean the next import of the same spreadsheet brought them back with their consent reset, and they would start receiving your broadcasts again. The suppression record exists to protect them, and it is the one thing “delete everything” should not take with it.
If you want that record gone too — for example because the person has asked you for a complete erasure and you have decided that is the right answer — write to us at hello@talkv.io and we will remove it.
3. When one of your customers asks you
The data you hold about the people you message is yours as Data Fiduciary, not ours. A request from one of them is properly yours to answer, and the console gives you what you need to do it: find the person, read everything held about them, correct it, or delete it. If they have asked for a copy to keep, the Contacts and Chats downloads in Settings hold all of it.
If one of your customers writes to us instead, we will pass the request to you and tell them we have done so. We will not delete your record on somebody else’s say-so.
4. Deleting a workspace
A workspace holds one business: its contacts, its templates, its campaigns and its message history. Because removing one is not reversible and is one mis-click away from being a business’s worst day, there is no button for it in the admin interface. It is a request, and we confirm it with you first.
- Download what you want to keep, from Settings → Your data.
- Write to hello@talkv.io from an email address that is an owner of the workspace, naming the workspace.
- We confirm the request with you and, if you would like, hold it for a stated period before acting.
- We delete it, and confirm in writing when it is done.
Completed within 30 days of confirmation, and usually within a few working days.
5. Deleting your user account
Your user account is you — your name, your email, your sign-in history. It is separate from the workspaces you belong to.
- Open Settings in the console.
- Choose Delete my account.
If you are the last owner of a workspace, you will be asked to hand it to somebody else or to delete the workspace first. This is not an obstacle for its own sake: a workspace with no owner is one nobody can administer, close, or get data out of, and only we could fix it, by editing the database by hand.
Your entries in a workspace’s audit log are not deleted. They record what happened to that business’s account, they belong to that business, and a log that can be edited afterwards is a note rather than a record.
6. Your WhatsApp Business Account is not affected
Deleting anything in talkv does not delete, deregister or alter your WhatsApp Business Account. That account is registered to you with Meta, and it survives us entirely — which is the point of us being a Tech Provider rather than a reseller.
To disconnect talkv from it, without deleting anything:
- In talkv, open Settings → WhatsApp and choose Disconnect. We delete the stored access token immediately.
- In Meta Business Manager, open Business settings → Apps and remove talkv from your WhatsApp Business Account. This revokes our access at Meta’s end as well as ours.
If you connected a number that was already running the WhatsApp Business app, disconnecting leaves it exactly as it was. We never register or deregister a coexistence number, because doing so would pull the number off that app and take its chat history with it.
To delete the WhatsApp Business Account itself, that is done in Meta Business Manager. We cannot do it for you and would not be able to if you asked.
7. What we keep, and for how long
- Opt-out records — kept while your account is open, so a re-import cannot resurrect somebody’s consent. Removed on request.
- Billing records and invoices — eight years. Indian tax law requires it and we cannot delete them on request.
- Audit logs — three years, append-only.
- Anonymous aggregate counts — for example the number of messages sent across the platform in a month. These contain no personal data and cannot be linked back to a person.
Everything else goes.
8. Making a request, and what to expect
Write to hello@talkv.io with:
- what you want deleted — a contact, a workspace, your user account, or everything;
- the workspace name, if it is not obvious from your email address; and
- the email address on your talkv account, so we can confirm you are entitled to make the request.
We acknowledge within 24 hours, verify who you are, and complete within 30 days. We will confirm in writing when it is done, and tell you what was retained under section 7.
If you are unhappy with how a request was handled, our Grievance Officer is named in the privacy policy and will answer within 15 days.
Not ready to delete anything? Tell us what is not working — most deletion requests we receive are about a problem we could have fixed. You can also sign in and download a copy first.
