Diwali WhatsApp messages for your customers

Diwali is on Sunday 8 November 2026, with Dhanteras on the 6th and Bhai Dooj on the 10th. These are written to be approved first time and to read like a person wrote them, not a campaign. Submit them at least a few days early: Meta can take up to 24 hours to decide, and the queue is longest the week before a festival.

Before you submit

What decides whether these go out.

  • A Diwali greeting is a Marketing template, even with no offer in it. Meta files birthday and festival wishes under “build customer relationships”, which is Marketing. Submitting one as Utility gets it rejected or recategorised, so choose Marketing and plan for its price.
  • Only send to people who agreed to hear from you. A festival is when businesses blast their whole phone book, and when people press Block. The blocks lower your number’s quality, and a low-quality template is paused automatically. Send to customers who opted in, and leave out anyone who has unsubscribed.
  • Keep greetings out of order updates. A delivery update is Utility only while it is purely about the order. Add “Happy Diwali, and enjoy 10% off” and the whole message becomes Marketing.
  • Do not sell fireworks on WhatsApp. WhatsApp’s Commerce Policy lists fireworks under weapons and explosives, and a template selling them is refused. The same policy covers alcohol and tobacco, which also turn up in festive offers.

When is Diwali in 2026?

Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) is on Sunday 8 November 2026. Dhanteras is on Friday 6 November and Bhai Dooj on Tuesday 10 November. Dates and puja timings can differ by region, so check your local panchang for the muhurat.

Is a Diwali greeting a Marketing or a Utility template?

Marketing. Meta’s categorisation guidelines list birthday and festival wishes under building customer relationships, which is Marketing even when the message contains no offer. Utility is only for messages about a specific order, booking or account.

How early should I submit Diwali templates for approval?

A few days before you want to send. Meta says a decision can take up to 24 hours, and if a template is rejected you need time to fix and resubmit it. Most templates are decided much faster, but the week before a festival is the wrong time to find out.

Can I send a Diwali message to every number in my phone?

Only to people who agreed to receive messages from your business. Messaging people who did not leads to blocks and reports, which lower your number’s quality and can pause your templates or restrict your account. talkv leaves out anyone without consent or who has unsubscribed, and shows how many before you send.

What does a Diwali broadcast cost?
